Rachelle & Josh

Rachelle and Josh both work in the medical field.  Rachelle is from the Rochester, NY area.  Josh's family has been in Syracuse for four generations.  They have a three month old stealing their sleep and a large puppy named Lucy.

The interview took place on a sunny September day.  Our conversation focused on death, sense of self, and love.

Without your consciousness,
your body is nothing.
It’s just a vessel (in my mind.)
— Rachelle, 9/5/13

In the following, conversation Rachelle and Josh discuss face transplants and the strain they could potentially place on personal identity.  This conversation is not for the faint of heart.

Are our bodies a reflection of ourselves?

Josh on the self:

Death was a mystical thing for me before I went into medicine. I’ve seen it so much — it’s demystified.
It’s just something that happens.
